ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE/EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The Academic Excellence Committee is a special subcommittee of the Seton Advisory Committee. The Academic Excellence Committee assesses and makes recommendations to the Seton Advisory Committee and Sr. Kay with respect to enhancing the academic program at Seton. The Passport Club is opened to grades 3-6th and Jr. Great Books is a book club opened to grades 1-6 with a volunteer at each grade level. Implemented also is hands-on science program in several grades with the assistance of parent volunteers.
In the past, Seton has offered it's students an array of extra-curricular activities including Arts & Crafts, Jr. Great Books, Spanish, basketball, Cub Scouting, Chess, Girl Scouting, Musical Theatre, Painting and soccer. These activities are scheduled after school at various times throughout the year. Some are team sports while others are instructional courses. Some extra-curricular activities are offered to grades K-6 while others are offered only to select grade levels.
Individual parents coordinate the foreign language class, Passport Club, Great Books, Chess, swimming, and tennis programs and need other parent volunteers to assist them. Additional instructional programs may be added depending on availability of space, time and costs.

ALUMNI COMMITTEE
The Alumni Committee was formed to begin to build a heritage for Seton Catholic School. In order to re-establish contacts with alumni, the Committee is compiling a directory of graduates from the four core parish schools (St. Anne's, St. Thomas More, Our Lady Queen of Peace, and Our Lady of Lourdes). ANNUAL CAMPAIGN FUND DRIVE

Each year since 1989 Seton has conducted an annual fund drive by mailing solicitations to parents and grandparents of Seton students, alumni and other benefactors who contributed to the school in the past. The Annual Campaign Fund Drive is coordinated by the Development Committee, a standing committee of the Seton Advisory Committee. The drive kicks off in Springtime. This is one of Seton's major fundraisers. 10% of the money raised is tithed to the Catholic Schools of Monroe County; the remainder is allotted for tuition assistance, staff development and other needs as determined by the Principal and Advisory Committee. Committee members develop the text of the solicitation letter, design brochure, update the mailing list, arrange for volunteers to stuff the envelopes and coordinate the initial mailing and follow-up mailing. ARTS & CRAFTS TALENTS

Those individuals with artistic talents, such as calligraphy, stenciling, ornamental pen writing, banner making, graphic design or sewing, should contact Sister Kay. Each year, we look for individuals to, make banners and to add their artistic touches to the school.

The Sports Program at Seton includes intramural basketball, soccer and running club for grades 3-6 as well as a running team. The Athletic Committee is responsible for implementing all aspects of the Sports Program, including arranging gym time, recruiting coaches, obtaining equipment, organizing concessions and enforcing the sports philosophy as stated in the Handbook. The Committee members will determine whether revisions to the Handbook are necessary. The Committee meets a few times each sport season. Parent involvement is essential to the sports program. B.L.A.S.T. DINNER AND AUCTION

The B.L.A.S.T. dinner and auction is one of Seton's most successful and fun events of the year. Initially conceived as a way to promote school spirit, the BLAST Dinner and Auction, sponsored by the Seton Advisory Committee, turned out to be a significant fundraiser as well. There are three subcommittees which coordinate the event.
- The Cocktail/Dinner Party Committee which recruits families to host the cocktail/dinner parties and orchestrates who goes where;
- The Solicitation Committee which solicits, organizes, and sets up donations for the auction at the school;
- The Decorations Committee selects a theme for the evening and then transforms the gym;

The Seton Book Fair is held every November at the time teacher/parent conferences are held. Committee members work with the school librarian to select an outside book vendor, arrange the publicity, and coordinate all other aspects of the sale including the schedualing of volunteers. Twice a month during the school year each family receives a Brown Envelope containing Sr. Kay's newsletter and numerous other fliers. How the appropriate fliers make it into the right envelopes is a miracle. Those who want to witness this miracle should contact the individual above.
BUSES

The first 2 weeks of school in September parent volunteers are needed in the morning and afternoon to assist students with boarding buses and to keep everyone safe. Please contact the individual above if you would like to lend a hand.
CHESS COMMITTEE

Seton's Chess Club runs twice a year. Parent volunteers are needed to take attendance and stay till all children are picked up after class. The Chess Tournament is held on the first Saturday in February at school from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The goals are to unite Seton and our students with the chess community around Rochester: to establish a well-rounded chess club at Seton where a beginner student can start to learn chess and go all the way to winning a tournament. This tournament inspires school spirit and spotlights the school by showing what it has to offer children and the community. We also hope to have Seton recognized on the list of chess tournaments for each year. The committee needs to set up tables/chairs on Friday evening, conduct registrations on Saturday morning, host a snack bar and/or baked food table and clean up after the tournament. CULINARY CONTRIBUTIONS

If you're not able to be involved at the school but still want to volunteer, consider baking or making a salad for a certain event. Baked goods are needed for several school functions, including Curriculum Night, Kindergarten Celebration, Teacher's Lunch/Brunch etc. Indicate your availability on the volunteer sheet sent home in September; you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator.

The Development Committee is one of several standing committees of the Seton Advisory Committee. The long-term goal of the Committee is to establish an endowment for Seton. In the process of working toward that goal, the Committee coordinates and oversees the Annual Fund Campaign, past donors, and the implementation of planned giving through wills and bequests. Anyone who wants to help provide for Seton's future should contact the individuals above.

FAMILY DIRECTORY

No Seton family could make it through the year without a Parent Directory, which lists names, addresses, and telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of all Seton families who wish to be included. In addition the directory also provides a class list. Each year the information is collected and input into a computer. The Directory is then printed, bound and distributed to each Seton family. Proof readers are needed to review the directory before it goes to print in October. If interested in assisting please contact the individual listed above.

Each year, the Parents' Association sponsors a picnic which is held on a Sunday afternoon in the Fall. Several subcommittees work together to help make this event an annual success. During the last week of school the students participate in Field Day, an annual event they thoroughly enjoy. They compete in water balloon tosses, peanut relays, three legged races and more. The Physical Education Teacher appreciates assistance from sports-minded individuals who would like to help set up, organize and run the games.

The Committee is responsible to design, improve, and maintain the gardens surrounding the school. The members plan their gardening projects during the winter months and then follow through with them during the spring. Summer and fall are spent maintaining and supplementing the gardens. GRANT WRITING
The Grant Writing Committee, a subcommittee of Seton Advisory Committee, researches grants available to Seton Catholic School, prepares the grant application and then monitors the award process. Those with an interest in, or background in, writing grants should contact Sr. Kay.
JR. GREAT BOOKS COMMITTEE

Great Books programs are predicated on the idea that everyone can read and understand excellent literature. Book Clubs will be formed for students in grades 3 to 6. Anyone who enjoys reading to young children and who can spare a few hours a month should call Sr. Kay or contact the teacher of your child. Guest readers are one of the highlights of school for kindergartners and first graders.
HOMEROOM PARENTS & ASSISTANTS
Parents who are interested in assisting their child's teacher with scheduling class parties, arrange drivers for field trips and help with other classroom activities should complete the volunteer form distributed at the beginning of each academic year.

LIBRARY AIDES

Library aides are needed to assist the children select and sign out books, re-shelve books when they are returned, help with June inventory and type as needed. The Librarian will train volunteers. LUNCH MONITORS AND SUBSTITUTES

During lunch, monitors supervise the children as they eat. We have 3 lunch periods (11:15 - 11:45)( 11:45 - 12:15)(12:15 - 12:45). On occasion, a monitor is unable to make it to school, LUNCH MONITORS NEED TO FIND OWN COVERAGE WHEN UNABLE TO MAKE IT IN. Help on occasion and sign up to be put on the substitute list. Mrs. Hockwater will provide a substitute list to all lunch monitors at the beginning of each school year. Training will be provided.

MARATHON COMMITTEE

The Marathon, which is sponsored by the Parents' Association, is one of Seton's major fundraisers and is the only one in which the students directly participate. Committee members organize the October event and distribute sponsor cards, arrange for water and juice stops along the marathon route, solicit volunteers to oversee the event and arrange for prizes to be awarded to the winners (last year students won Òdress down daysÓ). Anyone interested in serving on this committee should contact the individuals above.
NETWORK COMMITTEE

The Network Committee is one of several standing committees of the Seton Advisory Committee. The Committee is responsible for tracking pending legislation
in Albany and Washington that affects Catholic schools and for organizing lobbying efforts when necessary (i.e. letters to Congressmen). A committee representative also attends the annual NYS Catholic Conference in Albany which takes place in March. The Parent Involvement Committee is one of several standing committees of Seton Advisory Committee. The Parent Involvement Committee will periodically work with the Parents' Association president to address volunteer needs in the school and update the volunteer connection book. The sub-committee will coordinate and promote those activities or programs which build school spirit among the parents. PASSPORT CLUB

Students in grades 3 through 6 will have the opportunity to explore the world. Students will receive a passport. Every month students will be assigned countries or geographic regions to be studied. Once a month, during recess, students will be Òchecked-outÓ by parent volunteers who will listen to the student identify the countries that they have studied that month. This committee needs help on Fridays, from 12:00 pm until 2:00pm twice a month. Anyone interested in serving on this committee should contact the individual above.

Candid photographs of Seton Catholic School in action are needed for the yearbook. We are looking for parent volunteers to take digital pictures at various events throughout the school year. Please let Sr. Kay know if you would like to photograph certain school/athletic events.
PRESCHOOL

The Seton Pre-school is just as dependent on parent volunteers as are the upper grades of Seton. In the past, volunteers assisted with special projects (i.e. building a sign for the school, fencing the playground), integrating computer equipment into the classrooms, driving on field trips, assisting with public relations, preparing graphs for exhibits and assisting with a variety of other projects. PROFESSIONAL OR LIFE EXPERIENCES

Share your life or professional experiences with Seton students. In the past, parents who have had different cultural experiences or whose professional background pertains to classroom learning have addressed the students. For instance, a parent who taught on a Native American reservation shared her experiences with a class; a dentist explained and demonstrated the importance of oral hygiene; and a physicist explored the principles of science. If you have experiences which lend themselves to being integrated into Seton's curriculum, please consider sharing them with the students. Please contact Sr. Kay or any teacher at Seton.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

The Public Relations Committee is one of several standing committees of the Seton Advisory Committee. The Committee orchestrates Seton's efforts to publicize its name in the school community and in the greater Rochester community. Its responsibilities include arrange for publication of articles about Seton and/or its students in the parish bulletins and local newspapers, write article/s for the biannual school newsletter, deliver school promotional materials to real estate offices, libraries, stores and pediatricians' offices. RECRUITMENT/RETENTION COMMITTEE

The Recruitment Committee is another one of several standing committees of the Seton Advisory Committee. The Committee is responsible for overseeing and implementing all aspects of student recruitment/retention. Research to identify prospective pre-school or kindergarten students, telephone parents who have expressed an interest in Seton (during registration) and greet new families during spring registration and at the new parent social in August. The Seton Advisory Committee is a consultative body selected by Sr. Kay to assist her in formulating school policy. Each individual on the Committee serves as a chairperson of one of the several standing committees based on their expertise. Through long range planning, the Advisory Committee works to promote the mission of Seton. The Advisory Committee meets on the second Monday of the month. All parents are welcome to attend the ÒOpen ForumÓ held at the beginning of each meeting. Parents must submit their questions or concerns to Sr. Kay or Bernie Lillis in writing; the question or concern will be addressed at the meeting following its submission.

SETON PARENTS' ASSOCIATION

The Seton Parents' Association seeks to unite all parents of Seton in assisting the Administration and Faculty with the education of students by raising funds for the school, improving the "quality of life" at the school, enhancing the community spirit of the school and providing activities not otherwise provided to students. All parents of Seton students are members of the Parents' Association and are encouraged to attend its monthly meetings.
Officers of the Parents' Association are elected by members of the Association. Class Liaisons are asked to serve by the officers; those interested in being a Class Liaison for the next academic year should contact Mary Leisner.

Each class has several Class Liaisons who attend the monthly meetings, occasionally telephones class/grade parents, serves on at least one Parents' Association Committee during the year, prepares Blast class gift in March and provides a faculty treat one time during the school year.

SETON SWEATSHIRT/TEE SHIRT SALE

In order to build school spirit and to better advertise the school, the Parents' Association has sponsored a Seton sweatshirt/tee-shirt sale for the past several years. This year, Parents' Association will attempt to sell the sweatshirts and tee-shirts at various school functions, including the Picnic and Curriculum night. TUTORS

Volunteers are needed to spend a few hours tutoring students in math and computer or to listen to first and second graders as they practice and improve their reading skills. USED UNIFORM SALE

The Used Uniform Sale, which is organized by the Parents' Association will be held for two days in the early fall and spring of each school year. Parents donate the used uniforms. YEARBOOK

The yearbook committee prepares photographs and captions, arranges printing, solicits advertising and markets the yearbook. They would appreciate any assistance from volunteers. This committee is searching for a team of volunteers to take digital pictures at each event throughout the school year. Parents also teach interested 6th graders software program used.

Environment Course mandated by the Diocese of Rochester.
